On Monday, April 23, MVLA hosted its College Commitment Celebration to celebrate the 17 MVLA seniors who have committed to playing collegiate soccer next fall.
It was an enjoyable evening for all. Players expressed their gratitude to their families, coaches and teammates for their support and contribution to their success. Coaches Seth Alberico, Simon Weiss, and Joe Cannon (who also read notes on behalf of Coach Carlos Menjivar Jr.) each took time to talk about their players. Long-time MVLA parent and Team Manager, Robert Blackburn spoke on behalf of the parents and shared how the club has grown over the years into a well run club and acknowledged the players for years of work, setting goals, and working towards that goal as well as their parents for their time and support. MVLA Executive Director Joe Cannon and MVLA Director of Coaching Albertin Montoya praised the players for their hard work and expressed how proud they and the club are of them.
MVLA alumna Gabby Matulich, who played for MVLA's Lightning team and is currently playing for UCLA and is a graduating senior was the guest speaker. She shared tips with the players based on her experience as a college player and shared how MVLA prepared her well.
Special thanks to Liz Parry and Dawn Hill for their help putting this event together, George Fox for doing a fabulous job as our MC, Mike Tomz for taking photos all evening and to all the other volunteers who helped make this event possible. Thank you also to Palo Alto Baking Company and Ah Sam Florist for their support of the 2018 College Commitment celebration!
